George Garner Archive

George Robert Garner (April 16, 1892 – January 8, 1971)

George Garner was an American vocalist and choral director. He was the first African American to solo at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Garner sang to a crowd of 15,000 people at the 1935-36 Exposition on August 24, 1935.
