The 1935 California State Building was an exhibit hall designed by Chief Architect Richard Requa; the Maya-style ornament was designed and produced by Art Director Juan Larrinaga. Four colorful murals above the main entrance depicted the Commerce, Scenic Beauty, Agriculture, and Industry of the state. Concealed lights bathed the exterior of the building in “a symphony of color at night.”
