The 1935 California State Building was an exhibit hall designed by Chief Architect Richard Requa. Temporary Maya-style ornament was designed and produced by Art Director Juan Larrinaga, as were four colorful murals above the main entrance> Murals depicted California’s Commerce, Scenic Beauty, Agriculture, and Industry. Concealed lights bathed the exterior of the building in “a symphony of color at night.”
